This is an original press photo. Patience, the giraffe's first baby was stillborn so officials at the Roeding Park Zoo watched anxiously Monday morning for several hours as Patience went into her second labor. At upper left, she strides purposefully about her pen as the baby begins to emerge. Above, she bends down to examine the motionless form of her young. After a massage by zoo aides with burlap sacks to remove the afterbirth and to stimulate its body, it struggles to its feet as mother stands guard, right. The baby giraffe, already a strapping 5 feet tall and weighing about 125 pounds attempts to nurse at left. Photo measures 10 x 6.75 inches. Photo is dated 7-15-1980.
