Vintage Shabbat Candelabra,
Made in Israel, Ca 1950
A uniquely-designed candelabra to light your Shabbat candles or to display on your mantel!
This solid brass, hand-painted and varnished three-branched candelabra features an oil pitcher supporting the central candle holder, while two decorative olive branches support the two side candle holders. The pitcher and olive branches have a special meaning: they represent the miracle of Hanukkah - the olive oil that burned in the temple for 8 whole days. The sconce is firmly screwed to a sturdy base with the letters SHABBAT KODESH (Holy Sabbath) embossed in Hebrew letters. Green peeling paint adds vintage glamor to the candelabra!
A lovely heirloom to be handed down, or a Judaica gift for a special person.
The back looks good, the base was peeled paint and  the central candle holder in slightly crooked position.

Shabbat Candle lighting
A daughter / child lights one candle and a married woman lights two candles. It is traditionally common to give charity before lighting the Shabbat candles. The Shabbat candles should be lit no later than 18 minutes before sundown on Friday evening (i.e., before Shabbat begins) While covering her eyes, the woman waves her hands over the flames three times, to welcome the Shabbat, and says the Blessing: Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who sanctified us with his commandments and commanded us to kindle the Shabbat candles.
